Accounts Payable Clerk

Location: Wimbledon

Permanent Part Time

Salary: £17,000

Part-time Accounts Payable Clerk (Purchase Ledger)


£17,500 (4days)

Are you a proactive self-starter? This role will suit an experienced Accounts Payable Clerk who understands the process, competent in Excel able to create pivots, import reports and have excellent customer service skills. Ensure that purchase ledger invoices are recorded in the accounting system in an efficient, accurate and timely way, and to take particular responsibility for accurate recording of agency expenditure, including month-end accruals.


Responsibilities and duties

  • To ensuring that purchase invoices and expenses are correctly coded and approved, and input into the accounting system.
  • Upload staff agency invoices into the system automatically, via Excel, and to contribute to the development of this system for use with supplier accounts and other types of invoice and feedback any issues to the Finance Team Manager
  • Reconciling supplier statements to the purchase ledger, calculating accruals for invoices not yet received.
  • Investigating debit balances on the purchase ledger and resolve any disputed and held items
  • Ensure accruals from services are received within the month end deadline and question items which look unusual.
  • Carry out regular BACS runs for the payment of invoices and expenses, and ensure payments are post allocated to supplier accounts on day payment made.
  • Resolve queries from suppliers and managers and other staff.
  • Petty cash management to include month end reconciliation
  • This list is only a guide and there will be other things you will be expected to do.


To fulfil this role you need:

  • AAT (or equivalent) standard of education, including GCSE maths
  • Knowledge of principles of double-entry bookkeeping
  • Good level of IT literacy, with a good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, (V lookups)
  • A minimum of two years’ experience working with in a Finance /purchase ledger role including the use of a computerised accounts package
  • Ability to work meticulously and accurately in handling large quantities of accounting data
  • Ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision
  • Well organised and able to prioritise work effectively
  • Ability to resolve internal and external queries
  • Knowledge of principles of double-entry bookkeeping
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • A can do attitude
  • Customer focused
