The Role

Experienced medical supplies Product Category Specialist to lead, shape and execute the trading strategy for all product categories, namely medical consumables, equipment and pharmaceuticals.  To develop a robust set of category plans that will ultimately deliver the budgeted growth for each product area, working closely with the sales marketing team.  To be seen as ‘the’ category expert and go to person for all planning, whether promotional, strategic or tactical.  Lead cross-functional implementation of the category plan working with, but not limited to, UK sales, marketing, Customer Pricing Analysts and inventory Management, as well as working closely with European Product Category Manager to identify synergies and formulate European supplier agreements.

This position will be working in an office environment with regular travel both to Europe and in and around the UK -

Essential Duties

·         Develop and implement the category plan which will include, category role, definition, scorecard analysis, strategy and tactics development then final implementation and review

·         Category and subcategory analysis to identify trends and  areas for development with responsibility for category performance to target, along with identifying new product ranges to complement a portfolio

·         Work with customer pricing analyst team

·         Measure the performance, success and effectiveness of promotional activity through the evaluation of campaign results

·         Meet with suppliers, existing and potential new partners to review performance and area’s for improvement

·         Identify area’s to improve costs and margins

·         In conjunction with the marketing team, analyse the customer buying behaviour and design strategies that drive sales

·         Deliver the agreed budget numbers for gross profit & revenue

·         Work closely with the field team and National Sales Manager


·         Product Category management within NHS and advantage

·         Ideally specific experience in point of care diagnostic equipment

·         Pharmaceutical knowledge desirable

·         Ability to manage figures such as discounts, profitability, percentages etc.

·         Strong sales ability

·         Ability to manage relationships with suppliers
