Are you a qualified accountant with relevant and recent experience or are you looking to step up from a Management Accountant role? We are seeking Financial Controller in Leatherhead oversee the financial accounting function, including a shared service centre and 40 branches. Managing a small team, the role is hands-on with occasional travel required throughout England and Wales. This is a newly dedicated role following a series of growing changes.

Reporting to the Finance Director, the role will focus on key functions such as governance and control, treasury management, group consolidations, and departmental and branch financial accounting activities. The role will support a range of internal stakeholders such as the National Council and National Board, Branch Treasurers, along with external stakeholders such as the Home Office and HMRC.

This role would suit someone with Public Sector, VAT and MTD experience.

 

Job Specification:

  •          Oversee the transaction processing and integrity of purchase and expense transactions including payroll for around 150 employees
  •          Provide a financial interface for each department (HQ and Branch), ensuring all units are supported
  •          Prepare and deliver the statutory audits, including liaising and communicating with the external audit teams
  •          Ensure systems are in place to monitor, analyse and report performance of both departments
  •          Develop and implement systems and processes for financial and commercial departments, ensuring they are compliant and secure
  •          Lead the Treasury process through bank reconciliations, producing reports and ensuring all mandates are maintained effectively and in a timely manner
  •          Assist the Council, Board and Executive with the development of long-term strategies by providing solutions and decision making
  •          Manage and maintain a small team, ensuring they support the accounting function to provide maximum value
  •          Provide opportunities to improve financial efficiencies through internal stakeholders including the Procurement Manager and Treasurers
  •          Ensure full legal and company compliance such as VAT returns, Pensions processing and reporting

 

Experience/ Qualifications:

  •          Qualified accountant with recent experience and post-qualification required
  •          Strong leadership skills within a business with demonstrated practice
  •          Extensive VAT experience
  •          Public Sector experience would be massively beneficial
  •          Good communication skills both written and verbal
  •          Advanced excel skills and other basic computer skills required
  •          Experience of leading and managing a small team would be ideal
  •          Must be willing to travel on occasion so a driver would help, yet not essential
  •          MTD experience
